For Christmas I gave Dimitriy tickets for a Heber Train ride on New Years Eve!! (With me of course). We spent our morning basking in the gloriousness of the train yard and winding through the sunny mountains of Provo Canyon seeing wildlife that kept being pointed out to us over the intercom... to your left you will see an eagle flying over the lake!!!! To our right are some cows, and if you look closely you will see some ducks in the reservoir! (ok so I might have made up one or two of those, but it was funny how they were making everyday animals seem like a special treat you could only experience on their train ride.) The cart had two bench seats facing each other with about a foot between them, which made for fun people watching as families would try to squeeze in and situate in a somewhat comfortable, and not too awkwardly positioned arrangement. (Luckily we scored one of the few bench seats that was facing the back of the seat in front of us... that could have gotten awkward quickly and all the amusement we found in watching others jigsaw themselves in would have gone out the window.) We were also one of two couples there without any kids... but did I feel silly? Not at all. I was too excited to care. Speaking of kids... there was a little girl who sat behind us with red/blonde hair in a ponytail on the top of her head that was singing a good portion of the ride, as only little kids can- off pitch, making up her own tune/words... and yet it was endearing and so so cute! (you can kind of see her ponytail behind us)...
Then after a delicious lunch at a train-themed local burger joint in Heber and a lovely (and entirely too long) nap we hung these beauties to usher in the new year:
